Alcuéscar stage to Valdesalor

Next to the entrance of the House of Benefit of the Slaves of Mary and the Poor, a few arrows head in front of us for the first meters of the road of San Blas, which passes by the sports club. In just a kilometer, our road turns left and we follow the march surrounded by olive trees. Later we crossed over the stream of the Oil (Km 2.2) and after a couple of kilometers the landscape becomes freer and adehesated with the presence of some herds. Now take the stage between the N-630 – more than half a kilometer to our left – and the Ayuela reservoir on the right. By the medieval bridge over the Ayuela River, from the Tagus River basin and the tributary of the Salor, we arrived at Casas de Don Antonio.

The route does not reach the village and continues next to the chapel of the Pilar to continue towards Aldea del Cano along a road parallel to the N-630. At 26 Roman miles of Mérida, in the Dehesa of Santiago Bencalyz, in the term Casas de Don Antonio, was the mansio Ad Sorores. On the way to Aldea del Cano we will see the XXVII miliary camouflaged in a stone wall (Km 9,7). The number XXVIII, is in its original location and is known as the “miliary of the Mail” by the opening it has and used to leave the correspondence of the house of Santiago Bencalyz, is still used to leave dedications and recados (Km 11,1).

The next milestones are the bridge of Roman origin over the creek Santiago (Km 12,2) and the miliary XXX (Km 14), which we will see after crossing the National and very close to Aldea del Cano. We do not need to enter the village, in fact the road is still straight, but we only have to turn to the right half a kilometre if we are to replenish forces in this population that has a cozy hostel.

In less than half a kilometer we crossed the CC-71, the road between Aldea del Cano and its railway station, and a kilometer later under the highway bridge (Km 16.2). On the way, after passing the creek of Molinillo, – if we find it with water we can cross it through the rescued granite cubes that the Junta de Extremadura put – we see on the left and lying on the dehesa the miliary XXXII (Km 17). Then there is a Canadian step. After a slight rise and its subsequent descent we cross another uncertain flow water course. A path breaks legs next to the hesas of the Garabato above and the False lead us to the runway of the Aerodrome of La Cervera, of the Aeroclub Cáceres (Km 20).

According to the poster, the transit ban does not affect pilgrims. A little more wavy route and a long descent, between retamas, bring us in just over four kilometers to the old bridge of La Mocha on the river Salor (Km 24,3). After a one-kilometer straight, we finally reached Valdesalor, a population projected in the late 1960s.
