Stage from Carrión de los Condes to Terradillos de los Templarios

• Km 0. Carrión de los Condes (All Services)

Along the street of José Antonio, where the beautiful frieze of the church of Santiago, and the streets Esteban Collantes and Piña Blasco, we reached the Carrión River and the Benedictine monastery of San Zoilo, hotel and Center for Studies and Documentation of the Camino de Santiago with a specialized and complete Jacobean library open to the public. Advancing through the exit vial we find the N-120, which we cross to take the road of Villotilla (Km 2).

Herbs have invaded the scarce arcén of this local route but fortunately it has little traffic. Three kilometers from the beginning we left the property of what was the abbey of Benevivere (Km 4.8), and eight hundred meters later we say goodbye to the road to step the Vía Aquitana, Roman road that linked Bordeaux with Astorga and that more than two thousand years later still retains part of its original route (Km 5,6). In this section the shadows are not scarce, they simply do not exist. Fortunately, it no longer has the floor of rolled songs, which was covered in zahorra a few years ago. Also, just before crossing the Bustillo Road and in high season, it is possible to find in the middle of these sunny days an improvised bar (Km 10).

Almost two and a half kilometers after the crossing of the road we arrived next to a stone indicator that informs us of the passage of the Cañada Real Leonesa, one of the long-distance Spanish itineraries used by the transhumant pastors to drive livestock from the summer pastures (León) to the winter (Extremadura) and vice versa .

More than four and a half kilometers later we finally approached Calzadilla de la Cueza, a Salvadoran town that at first glance resembles the decor of a western. Hostel, hostel and restaurant, all in one, allow any possibility: from the mere rest and refreshment to the final stop for those who have ended up out of the millennium road. Any option is valid.

Since the bar is at one end, to continue the march, the village must be surrounded and incorporated into Calle Mayor that leads to the N-120. On the national road we pass the Cueza River and cross it to advance along a sidewalk. The diversion to Santa Maria of the Shops, a former hospital also known as the Great Knight (Km 18,8), follows a stretch of about three kilometers that saves a negligible level of 50 meters. Then, on a gentle descent, we crossed the N-120 again to enter the small core of Leigs.

We left Leigs in parallel to the national highway, which we cross again to return for the last time the rescued man who leads to the same Terradillos de los Templarios, a town named after the Knights Templar, a Christian military order founded in the 12th century that guarded in this same place the already disappeared hospital of San Juan.
